Pride of Amersfoort: Our Lieve Vrouwetoren
The miracle of Amersfoort, Our Lieve Vrouwetoren forms the heart of downtown. At over 98 meters tall, the Our Lieve Vrouwetoren is one of the tallest late medieval towers. The pride of Amersfoort is the city's most famous eye-catcher and is also known as Lange Jan. It is possible to climb the tower. After 346 steps, you will be rewarded with a magnificent view of the city and central Holland. On the adjacent square, the Lieve Vrouwekerkhof, you have the nicest cafes for lunch, dinner or drinks. Market at the Hof
If you are in town, we recommend that you also visit the Hof. This square hosts a market on Fridays and Saturdays. There are also many nice catering establishments where you can enjoy drinks and food in the evening.
One of the nicest shopping streets: the Krommestraat
Right next to Hof runs the Krommestraat. This is one of the nicest shopping streets in Amersfoort for shopping. Definitely worth taking these spots!
Back in time with a walk through the Muurhuizen
Delve into Amersfoort's past at the . Muurhuizen. When the old city wall was demolished, from about 1500 houses were built with the material from the old wall along the line where the wall had stood. Hence the name Muurhuizen. This street runs around the center and around every corner you can expect another beautiful picture. Especially the Monk Dam is worth a picture! Both by day and at dusk an experience! During the walk along the Muurhuizen you will come across cheese shop Liefde & Ambacht. The tastiest cheeses have been sold here for four generations. For the true cheese lover, this store is therefore a must visit.
From medieval to modern: De Nieuwe Stad
From the medieval center, you walk right into a modern paradise at the new town. De Nieuwe Stad Bustling with creativity and innovative businesses. The light board is popular for a guaranteed cool photo, you can have lunch, drinks or dinner at Het Lokaal. Or walk past the studios and stores, such as Letterpers. Staying for a night? There are almost always cool concerts or dance parties at FLUOR!
A bull with a story
At the edge of downtown stands a huge bull. From Langestraat you walk into the multicultural & authentic shopping area De Kamp. At the end of this street you will find the steel bull. He looks a bit lost on the patch of grass he only just seems to fit on. The huge hulk has had to endure a lot, having been wrecked once, replaced, dragged and put back. Great museums in Amersfoort
On cold winter days it is also nice to warm up somewhere. Amersfoort has several interesting museums. For example, you will find the Mondrian House with wonderful exhibitions entirely dedicated to, you might expect, Piet Mondrian. Or go to Flehite, where not only the inside contains beautiful art, but whose building itself is truly a work of art. Drinks at the Apple Market and Groenmarkt
After a day of strolling through the streets of Amersfoort, it's time for a drink or a party. This is possible at the Appelmarkt and the Groenmarkt. These squares border each other and together with the Hof, which can also be found here, form the entertainment center of Amersfoort. Here you will find Music Café Pitchers, Biercafé De Dikke Koning, dance club Jackson and many more cool catering establishments packed with experience in starting a party! Tip for when you've made it late, head to Broodje Hadi for a late-night snack.
