Piet Mondrian was born in Amersfoort on 1872. His later geometric-abstract work in particular, with its distinctive horizontal and vertical black lines, is world famous. Mondrian is widely regarded as a pioneer of abstract and non-figurative art. On this page you will find all initiatives around Piet Mondrian. Amersfoort colors red, yellow and blue.
And the winner is...
Amersfoort is not only the Keistad but also the birthplace of Piet Mondrian. The action Knitting for Cobbles is in cooperation with Citymarketing Amersfoort and the Mondriaan House. Joke Perfors is the winner of this action and you are now looking at her elaboration.
Two recreated works by Piet Mondrian are on display on the Boulder. Joke stretched and knitted the wool all by herself. Have you visited the beautiful work yet?

Mondrian street art
At the conclusion of the Mondrian Year, street art artist Christopher Snowden (b. 1984) was commissioned by the Mondrian House and the Municipality of Amersfoort to create a mural on Ine and Gerard Witteveen's building on Balladelaan 222. The work depicts Piet Mondrian with The Lieve Vrouwetoren in his backpack. Snowden thus refers to Piet Mondrian's Amersfoort roots.

Letters to Mondrian
Piet Mondrian wrote 22 letters to Willy Wentholt, a French language teacher from Amsterdam with whom he maintained a blinkered relationship for five years. The letters Willy Wentholt wrote to Mondrian he seems to have thrown away immediately after reading.
For writer Daantje Idelenburg and composer Niek Idelenburg, the absence of these letters prompted them to create fictional letters. A kind of Voix Humaine where you don't hear the other voice either.
