Are you going on a city trip with friends, colleagues or your boyfriend or girlfriend soon? And do you already have choice stress where to go? Stop searching and be surprised by Amersfoort. A city with a photogenic city center, special boutiques, lots of nature in the area and many lunch spots where you can recover from your day away. Especially in autumn Amersfoort looks very romantic and cozy.

In this blog I will show you what your city break in Amersfoort can look like. So you get everything out of your day.

A good start is half the battle

Amersfoort has a central train station, making it easily accessible. Get off the train and walk into downtown within 10 minutes. Still need to wake up? No problem. Rent an ov-bike or take one of the many buses to the center.

Early birds can grab a morning breakfast at my favorite breakfast spot: The Blueberry. This is a breakfast & lunch store with an American twist. During these autumnal days, the pumpkin' spice latte is back on the menu. Now that's a great start to your day!

Take a city tour

A city walk may sound a bit dull, but with all those discolored leaves Amersfoort really is a picture. With Rondje van de Stad you walk along the beautiful places in the city. For only €3,50 you can choose from 3 routes and follow them online. I recommend the URBAN route; you will see a nice mix of old and new buildings.

Prefer to follow a free route? Of course you can. The photo route takes you along the most photogenic spots of Amersfoort.

Kunsthal KAdE (and the Eemhuis)

Had enough hiking? High time for culture ;-) Kunsthal KAdE is the place for modern and contemporary art. Until January 9 you can admire the work of artists Sadik Kwaish Alfraji and Natasja Kensmil. During this exhibition you will discover that art is more than just a pretty picture.

And while you're at Eemplein, take a walk inside the Eemhuis. As far as I'm concerned, one of the most beautiful (if not the most beautiful) libraries in the Netherlands.

Let's do lunch

Already feeling hungry? Drop in at Alberts on Hof. In this restaurant with a cozy character you get the most heavenly sandwiches (also vegan options). So sit back and take your time to chat.

PS Here you also want to order a coffee. So good!

Shopping on the Krommestraat

In one of the side streets of the Langestraat you will find the Krommestraat. This is not called the nicest street of Amersfoort for nothing! The variety of stores and restaurants makes the street so special. You don't have national chain stores here, but local entrepreneurs. When you go shopping here, you really take home a unique piece of Amersfoort.

Eating out at Stadscafé

On the Lieve Vrouwekerkhof sits Stadscafé Amersfoort. This is a restaurant with inspiring interior and varied food. A combination that makes me very happy (and hopefully you too). Another plus: at this address you are guaranteed a meal among the locals.

Banging the night away: 14 the musical

I love trying out new things. Recently a new theater was added in the Amersfoort region: the AFAS Theater. What a building! Until January 8, 14 the musical is running there. You don't have to be a soccer fan to see the musical. The AFAS building and theater is quite an experience in itself. The music, the theater play with a wink and the special effects make it more than worth it to book your ticket(s).

Still make a weekend of it?

Stay cozy overnight. An overnight stay at the charming Vita Nova ship hotel is highly recommended. Let the swaying water lull you to sleep, with all the comforts of a modern hotel room.
