Have you ever walked through the Crested Gate? To me, it feels a bit like a magical gate. That's because you enter a world full of exotic, adventurous places from ancient and bygone times. Curious? Come, I'll take you for a worldly day of shopping!
Alice in Wonderland
At the beginning of Kamp you will find Tea Party, where I acutely get an Alice in Wonderland meets Queen Elizabeth feeling. Beautifully set tables, a selection of beautiful teacups and teapots and, of course, all kinds of fresh tea. The Mad Hatter himself would be jealous! Sitting in this fairytale setting, you can enjoy a high tea or a sweet workshop.
Then again, I get the ultimate 1001 night feeling at women's bathhouse Schoon. A small hammam with various Oriental relaxation treatments, where you can enjoy fresh mint tea and a delicious Moroccan meal.
World cuisine in Amersfoort
In terms of food anyway, Kamp is the place to be. You can go there for a quick bite while shopping or a freshly prepared takeaway at Wit Lof to enjoy at home. Or sample French cuisine at the Bib Gourmand-winning restaurant De Aubergerie. Fancy some more international dishes? Dine at the Ethiopian restaurant Awazé, where they serve both meat and vegetarian dishes.
And of course on and around the Kamp you will find all kinds of cozy little stores to recover from a day of shopping such as The Corner House. Do you have the time? Then choose an authentic English high tea, afternoon tea or lunch at Something Else.
Cook for yourself?
Do you like to cook for yourself and are looking for something special? At Kamp there are no less than two Toko's with an extensive assortment. Or walk past Omur Markt for all the fresh produce. Just step into the Spar for that bottle of wine and you're done! Did it get late, but still need some groceries? You can visit the Avondwinkel until midnight.
Shop till you drop
At Empress you will find the hippest dresses and cardigans (including King Louie). Fashion Livy has both women's and children's clothing, so you can go for a new look together. To finish it off, step into Double F Cosmetics for your looks and finally one of the various jewelers - including one in the Kamperbinnenpoort - or the goldsmith for the necessary bling-bling. Love the outdoors and sports? Live it up at Bever and Runnersworld.
The Kamp also features interior design stores and a flower shop to make your home even cozier. Speaking of coziness. Having a party? Garlands, party supplies and other party attributes are all available at Party World. Looking for beautiful, durable and unique toys for babies to teens? Then Speelpakhuis is the perfect place. The store itself is just a picture to behold.
Thrift shopping
Do you think sustainability is especially important? Come browse the shelves at second-hand store Terre des Hommes for recycled treasures. In the context of repair: the best shoemaker in the Netherlands can be found at Kamp, so your favorite shoes can last another round. And if you know Babai, you can have your old carpets restored or cleaned in addition to hand-knotted carpets.
Oui, oui Paris!
As you stroll down Kamp, don't forget the side streets. For example, in the Grote Sint Jansstraat, it feels like walking through Montmartre. This is because of the various art galleries, small boutiques and centuries-old buildings.
Art lover? Then be sure to stop in at Jans Pakhuys, PIEN, Picture @ Home or J&L Framing (in addition to frames, they have a large collection of miscellaneous works).
Higher spheres
On and around the Kamp you will also find exciting and mysterious places that you hardly find in the rest of the city. Such as a casino, smart shop with a large assortment and even an old-fashioned 'Erotic cinema' and shop. For everyone who likes to spend some time in higher spheres.
Getting zen for a moment
Like every city, Amersfoort has its quiet spots. You just have to know how to find them. Shall I tell you the one at Kamp? At the medieval Hofje De Armen de Poth you'll mostly hear birds chirping and the wind rustling through the trees. Just close your eyes and relax.
Feeling zen again? Then take a walk along part of the old city wall. You can even walk a bit on top of the wall and get a beautiful view of the inner city. Or stroll through one of the beautiful side streets and explore on your own!
Special overnight stay
Want to stay a little longer? How about sleeping in an old tobacco building, where tobacco was still dried in the 18th century? Hotel de Tabaksplant takes its name from the regional tobacco trade in the 18th century.
