A day trip to The Amersfoort Zoo is full of surprises. The zoo is designed so that there is something new to discover behind every corner. The paths lead you along the most diverse habitats, from the African savanna to the deep ocean. And with special children's routes, such as the Klim Alles route, there's always a challenge for the adventurous kids.

Animals in the city

  • Taurus

    De Stier was created by Amersfoort artist Thijs Trompert for the 2006 manifestation Urban Wijland. De Stier is a subtle commentary on urbanization. He seems lost in the city, but still found a patch of grass.

  • Pigeon

    In Amersfoort's Eemhaven stands a 150-kilo steel sculpture of the pigeon. It is a tribute to the many pigeon fanciers of the former working-class neighborhood "Het Sasje" that used to stand on what is now Eemplein. Artist: Thijs Trompert

  • Saint George on horseback

    Saint George is the patron saint of Amersfoort. Here you can see him on horseback, defeating the dragon. This statue was donated to the city in 1959 in honor of its 700th anniversary. Tip: At the foot of the Sint Joriskerk is the chimes in the Boterwaag. A few minutes after each full hour, George and the Dragon come out of the tower and Saint George defeats the dragon, over and over again.

  • Pig's head

    In 1903, a butcher shop opened in the building on Lavender Street, many traces of which can still be seen. The gable stones on the left and right sides of the front facade show pigs and butcher's tools.

    every weekend

    Every Saturday and Sunday, the Guide at the top of the Kwetterterp is ready to examine owl balls with you. Find out between 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. what meal the bird enjoyed. What animal do those little bones you find belong to?
