About Silent Lane
In the 1990s, architecture received considerable attention, and so this new neighborhood on the north side of Amersfoort became a real crowd puller. About Silent Lane
In the 1990s, architecture received considerable attention, and so this new neighborhood on the north side of Amersfoort became a real crowd puller. Urban planner Ashok Bhalotra took a different tack with his design. He drew inspiration from people's personal dreams and ideas, distancing himself from the rigid modernism of the 1960s and the influence of social science from the 1970s. Bhalotra wanted to use symbols and profound themes to spark the imagination of residents.
The neighborhood is made up of five special parts: The Ring, a neighborhood as cozy as the historic heart of Amersfoort; The Laan der Hoven, a lively axis with blocks of houses and a shopping mall; The Hidden Zone, a place full of adventure and mystery; The Mask, which forms the border of the neighborhood and represents stratification and anonymity; and The Creek, which connects old farms and emphasizes the sense of romance. In addition to these main elements, five residential themes, five types of landscapes and five urban forms were also conceived. The architects incorporated these ideas into their designs as best they could, creating a colorful mix of modern homes.
