A fresh dive into the history of Amersfoort's water

In 1912, Amersfoort was home to two waterworks. Already since 1890, the city received water from the Utrecht Waterworks, delivered from Soesterberg. But, the municipality was not entirely satisfied and in 1912 decided to take matters into their own hands by setting up their own waterworks. They built the municipal water tower on the highest point of De Berg, at a height of 44 meters. This clever elevation allowed the tower itself to remain a modest 18 meters. Inside you'll find a steel reservoir that provides enough pressure on the network so that even during the break of a soccer game, everyone has water. A real source of fun, in other words! In 1927 the open parapet was bricked up, but recently the windows high up in the tower were reopened during a restoration. Now the tower is home to a foundation.
