Hidden in the nature of the Schothorst Estate is the Medieval Farmyard. In this farmyard from the early Middle Ages, you will be introduced to the buildings, crops and people of around the year 800.
The farm is a reconstruction based on excavations in Wijk bij Duurstede and is unique in the Netherlands. Of course, there are also all kinds of animals in the yard, pasture and stable. These are mainly old domestic breeds: sheep (Veluws heideschaap), goats (Dutch land goat), Kune Kune pigs and chickens.
In the medieval farmyard, experience the simple medieval farm life that was in tune with nature. What did it smell like there? Were animals allowed to roam freely? How did they keep themselves warm? Where did their garbage go? And did they play games back then?

On Sundays 1:00 - 4:30 p.m. and on Wednesdays from 2:00 - 4:30 p.m. (from May through September) our hostess walks in medieval clothing. Of course you may ask her all kinds of questions! Viking weekends are also held at the farmyard. These days often have themes where the vikings perform and demonstrate various medieval crafts. There are also Sibbedagen, when the medieval Sibbe family is present and you can do your own crafts. During Viking Weekends and Sibbe Sundays, the "residents" walk in medieval attire.
