Belgians Monument
During World War I, the Netherlands took in interned soldiers and their families. In gratitude from the Belgians, Belgian archtitect Huib Hoste designed the Belgenmomument, which can be found on Amersfoort Mountain. Construction began in 1917 and would take two years. Only the official ceremony did not take place until Nov. 22 in 1938.
Not only is the monument a sight in itself, but the generous garden with planters and fountains makes for a beautiful sight. This garden was designed by Belgian architect Louise van der Swaelmen. He designed the garden to blend perfectly with the monument and the surrounding forest area. He accomplished this with the combination between ordered and natural garden atmospheres.
