'The Miracle of Amersfoort'
With its height of over 98 meters, the Onze Lieve Vrouwetoren is one of the tallest late medieval towers. The pride of Amersfoort is the city's most famous eye-catcher and is also known as Lange Jan. 'The miracle of Amersfoort' was the reason for the construction of the tower. Construction began after 1450 and the tower was completed around 1500. The tower is said to symbolize the Mother of God and the additional expanded corner tower the Christ Child. The tower is not only highly visible in the city, but also makes itself heard with its 100 bells, including 7 swinging bells. Moreover, the location of the tower forms the cadastral center of the Netherlands, as is clearly visible in the floor of the tower.

Peregrine falcon
Since 2013, a pair of peregrine falcons has made Onze Lieve Vrouwetoren its home. Peregrine falcons are quite rare in the Netherlands and are not often found in an inner city. The peregrine falcons can regularly be seen on the tower, especially when one is perched atop the cross (just below the rooster). Young have been born every year since 2014; you can follow the peregrine falcons via the webcam.
