Circle Mirror Transformation

Circle Mirror Transformation is a performance by Loek de Bakker, based on an award-winning play by American playwright and Pulitzer Prize-winner Annie Baker. The title refers to a drama exercise that often comes up in theater classes, where you first mirror the movement of your predecessor and then transform it into something else. But also to the circle, in which by mirroring and role-playing, students transform and come to new understandings.

Circle Mirror Transformation brilliantly depicts with few words how awkward it all is sometimes, that being human. The artificial intimacy of the theater exercises leads to discomfort, but also to disarmament and thus vulnerability. All the characters are forced to relate to each other and themselves - and we are allowed to watch, safely from the stands.
