In the underground museum of National Monument Kamp Amersfoort, the new temporary exhibition "Forced" has been on display since January.

About half a million Dutch men were used as forced labor in German industry between 1942 and 1945, replacing German men serving at the front. Men who tried to escape the compulsory Arbeitseinsatz were imprisoned in Kamp Amersfoort, among other places, and still put on transport to Germany. Approximately 30,000 men did not survive the poor living and working conditions, infectious diseases and Allied bombing. Thus, this forced labor is also the story of loss and uncertainty.

The story of these forced laborers has remained underexposed for decades. In the exhibition, former forced laborers recount their experiences through personal objects, memoirs, photographs and audio stories. The exhibition has been developed together with the National Committee for May 4 and 5 and the NIOD and is part of the larger project "Forced - Employed in Germany. In addition to the exhibition, this includes multi-year research, an online graphic novel and a podcast.

The temporary exhibition can be seen through January 2025.
