House of Beek
In 1937, this villa was built to the design of the famous architect Gerrit Rietveld, but not realized by him. After Rietveld returned the commission, the Van Beek family engaged the architect Blom. The latter made some adjustments and so the design was accepted by the Welstandscommissie.
In the building, Rietveld's hand is clearly recognizable in the colors used and in the details of the doors, door handles, window locks, kitchen cabinets and tile work. What is striking is how all rooms are oriented to the outside, with their own balcony or terrace. Under the house is a basement with a garage, laundry room and several work rooms.
