The publishing house is housed in two medieval wall houses. During extensive remodeling in the 18th century, Muurhuizen 3 received an extension on the street side with characteristic 18th-century sash windows.
Modifications to the front roof plane brought the old front façade into the interior, thus preserving a remnant of the original medieval façade finish: a thin layer of lime with a painted imitation of brickwork.
Muurhuizen 1 was also remodeled in the 18th century, but retained more of its medieval character with the original heavy gables and small window openings. The rear facade shows several building phases with a sampling of windows. Also located here is a late Gothic extension, possibly originally the boathouse. Recent annual ring research has shown that Muurhuizen 1 and 3 are considerably older than thought, dating from around 1390.
