Nick Drake - Remembered For A While | FLUOR

Few words as prophetic as those from the song Fruit Tree: *"Forgotten while you're here, Remembered for a while "*. Nick Drake wrote these phrases not long before his young death in 1974, almost 50 years ago now. Stranded a sigh from the 27 Club, this musician was as unknown as he was brilliant when alive, and his first decades in the afterlife foreshadowed an almost complete oblivion. As the 21st century burgeoned, however, a wave of remembrance arose that elevated Nick Drake to icon status.

The lamented young man (who would now be 75 years old) can count the likes of Elton John, Bon Iver, Beck and Jose Gonzalez among his ever-growing fan base in 2024, and posthumously made his mark on music by REM, Norah Jones and Elliot Smith.

Nick Drake's volatile life and introverted nature has made him a cult figure that is difficult to grasp: for some, he is the tormented hermit who chose oblivion over popularity, for others, the epitome of a music industry that fails to recognize genius or recognizes it too late. For Annelies Van Dinter (Echo Beatty, Pruillip) Gianni Marzo (Isbells, Marble Sounds), Nicolas Rombouts (Dez Mona), Jan Swerts and Renée Sys (Ansatz Der Machine), he is above all the composer and performer of such timeless gems as *"River Man "*, *"Northern Sky "* and *"Pink Moon "*.

To pay homage to the enigmatic English bard as well as to show the man behind the myth, these five musicians bring a performance featuring both stories from Drake's short life and interpretations of his greatest hits that were never hits, but grew into tasted fruit from a tree that was cut down too young.
