Sisters Maria (violin) and Natalia (piano) Milstein will take you into the sound worlds of Prokofiev, De Falla/Kochanski and Grieg.
Sergey Prokofiev is known as one of the greatest composers of the 20th century. With his fresh, revolutionary style, he broke away from the Romantic tradition, creating a wonderful, fairy-tale world. His Second Violin Sonata in D Major, originally written for flute and piano, but arranged for violin and piano at Oistrach's request, is no exception. From the first notes, the listener is drawn into a fantastic world full of legends, fairy-tale characters and beautiful lyrical melodies.

Lyrical melodies abound in the music of Prokofiev, who was also a great vocal composer - consider his operas, for example. For the Ukrainian singer Nina Koshetz (Rachmaninov's muse), Prokofiev composed his imaginative cycle Five Melodies. He later arranged this cycle for violin and piano for the famous violinist Pawel Kochanski, with whom he had previously worked on his First Violin Concerto. Kochanski inspired many composers of his time and also collaborated with Manuel de Falla on the beautiful vocal suite Siete Canciones Populares Españolas for violin and piano. Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg, like Prokofiev, was a musical wizard, drawing his inspiration from Norwegian folklore. The epic Third Violin Sonata in c minor resembles a Scandinavian myth set in the beautiful Norwegian landscapes.
