Born into a musical family in Delhi, as grandson of tabla maestro Ustad Faiyaz Khan, Imran Khan began studying Indian classical music at an early age. Trombonist Arjan Linker only came into contact with Indian music during his studies, coming from a Western classical background, and has since studied intensively to discover this new musical language. Through music, the two musicians from different sides of the world met.

In this concert, the musicians present various ragas: melodies developed over thousands of years by Indian master musicians. These ragas that express a specific mood and emotion coupled with a time in the day provide a special framework for improvisation. Over a long arc, the musicians develop the raga note by note from stillness to an overwhelming climax. The music lives in the moment, and so each concert is unique!

Concert Series Young & Inspired

As a musician, you have to put in flight hours. Not only at home in your attic room to master all the techniques, but also on a stage. How does it feel to be on a stage, what kind of concentration do you need, how is the interaction with live audience, how do you want to present yourself? These are all aspects you can't just practice at home. You need a stage and an audience for that. From the need to offer young talent and young professionals a stage, the concert series Jong & Bevlogen (Young & Inspired) was born. This concert series came about in cooperation with our guest-programmer violinist Lonneke van Straalen.
