On Saturday, September 21, artist Munir de Vries (1988) will give an Artist Talk at the Wijkmuseum Soesterkwartier. He designed the sculpture for the 35-meter-long design for the project Wires of our Dutch Slavery Past. A project in which everyone who wants to can participate in the coming period. Both in our museum and at other locations.

In the design for the project Draden van ons Nederlandse Slavernijverleden he depicted the story surrounding the history of slavery in the Province of Utrecht. He did this based on the image and source research carried out by Marianne Rijke and Pim Sierink of Landschap Erfgoed Utrecht. You are welcome to work on the tapestry in the museum on Wednesdays and Saturdays until October 5, 2024. At least 400 people from the province of Utrecht will be working on it, and you can make your contribution. Experience is not necessary as guidance is available.

About Munir de Vries

Munir de Vries (1988) is a visual artist/illustrator based in Utrecht who prefers to depict stories from the city in the form of illustrations, large murals and installations. He seeks a balance between his own experimentation, touching on social issues and taking responsibility. His latest works focus on collectivism, the sometimes invisible connection with each other and our environment. On Sept. 21, he will talk more about the creation of the tapestry design.
