We are writing the year 1979, the city of Christchurch in New Zealand. Angus is at a private school there and becomes completely obsessed with post-punk, without having any knowledge of music whatsoever. That obsession causes a metamorphosis. Not only his appearance changes, but also his attitude. Friends no longer recognize him. Angus therefore decides to start performing in order to remain credible, although first he will have to start a band. This should be a punk band called the Daleks - or does only Daleks sound cooler? He is dazzled by the haughty and super glamorous Holly, whereas he would have more use for Kirsten, a super-musical girl (played by Auckland singer-songwriter Renee) who works in the pharmacy.

A challenge for the production of the film was to recreate Christchurch before the devastating earthquakes of 2010 and 2011. The landscape and cityscape from the 1970s had to be recognizable would be on screen.
