A cafe owner in a small Texas town discovers that his wife is having an affair with one of his employees and hires a private investigator to kill the two. Only this one turns out to be none too clever. When a dead body is discovered, a complex web of deceit and double agendas emerges and it is only a matter of time before more victims fall. The plot lines become ingeniously intertwined, with strong acting from Frances McDormand (Fargo), among others, who makes her feature film debut here. With Blood Simple, Joel and Ethan Coen delivered their black-comic calling card right away.
