VO-LU-ME (1.5 to 3 years) | The Low Country - Spring Outings
Everything ordinary becomes extraordinary in VO-LU-ME. Theater makers Karlijn Hamer and Bram van Helden take toddlers from 1.5 to 3 years old together with their (grand)parents, step by step, into their imagination. A first acquaintance with theater in which they can play together at the end in the cozy theater tent.
In their pocket, Bram and Karlijn find a small piece of fabric, which gets bigger with each unfolding. So big that you can even disappear in it. With that piece of cloth they fill the whole space. From flat to convex and from empty to full. Sometimes you feel so very small and a little later you feel very big again. Afterwards, when all hands are itching and all feet are kicking, the children can play on the floor. Because playing together and being amazed, isn't that the most fun there is?

VO-LU-ME received four stars in the Volkskrant: "Toddler theater is not new, but these creators, including director Inez Derksen, give the genre a very unique impulse. Also for adults it is nice to see how the imagination can be stimulated with very simple means." Maker Bram van Helden finds in very ordinary things a source of wonder about life. This fits well with the perception of toddlers and their parents. For Karlijn Hamer, toddlers and preschoolers are the dream spectators: "They look with their bodies, and everything has the potential to be lifted into theater by them."
