Trumpeter & singer Michael Varekamp is ten years old when he finds a record in his father's record cabinet: The Townhall Concert by Louis Armstrong. He puts it on and is immediately sold. He can only think "I want that too!". What follows is an intense time of trying, listening, practicing and trying again. Ten years later he travels the world as a jazz trumpeter and Louis Armstrong expert. He currently draws packed theaters with theater programs about Miles Davis, Louis Armstrong and Billie Holiday, among others. He has toured around the world with Fra Fra Sound, Dutch Swing College Band and Miles Davis alumnus Sonny Fortune. He has performed at Birdland and Jazz at Lincoln Center New York and most recently played Branford Marsalis. He received the Kobe Award for extraordinary talent in Japan and continues to play frequently abroad.
