Workshop in Goldsmithing à la Calder

Schools in the Arts is hosting a workshop on Saturday, Oct. 26, in which participants will be inspired by American artist Alexander Calder (1898-1967).

Alexander Calder is best known as the American artist who invented the concept of the mobile - movable sculptures. But in addition to his innovative work in sculpture, Calder was also an influential designer of jewelry, something less known but just as special.

Calder's jewelry showcases his brilliant simplicity, his strong connection to American craftsmanship and his idea that art is alive and moving, whether in large sculptures or small, wearable pieces. During this workshop, you will get to work yourself. Bend, hammer and wrap metal wire to create your own unique piece of jewelry inspired by Calder's style.
