Meet Marina: the ultimate Amersfoort nerd! This 26-year-old founder of clothing store Flups literally and figuratively knows both the hat and the edge. She combines her love for the Keistad with a passion for sustainability and clothing. Get ready for an inspiring shopping trip!
FLUPS - Fashion Lending & Upcycle Store
"I like nothing in the Netherlands better than Amersfoort" begins Marina proudly. "To me, this is a village disguised as a city. So you won't get me out of here! I always get raving when I show friends and family around with my regular downtown tour. I can tell something about every nook and cranny!"
Stylish Lending
We start our journey at Flups in shopping area the Kamp. This stands for "Fashion Lending and Upcycling Store. Besides owning this store, Marina is also the creative brain behind this unique and sustainableconcept. She explains: "People love beautiful clothes. The urge to shop won't disappear anytime soon either. That's why I decided to look for the balance between shopping and helping the environment.
At Flups, you have the choice to both borrow and buy clothes. That means you don't buy unnecessary things, as many secondhand stores do. That way you're really being sustainable."
Bicycle tire bells
In addition to second-hand clothing, you will find many unique products at Flups. Marina works with creative makers who know how to make various accessories from waste. Think of bags made from tabs of soda cans or earrings made from bicycle tires. Marina truly accepts anything that comes her way. "Is there something in between that I can use? Then I'm in luck. Is it not? Then it finds its way back to other foundations or charities through me."
Pimp my style
Do you have old clothes that could use a makeover or a personal touch? Then Flups is the place to be! Every month there is an 'Upcycling' workshop in collaboration with Gine from the Sewing Machine. Marina: "This way you can extend the life of your favorite garments or just learn to make your own custom designs!"
SUSTAINABLE SHOPPING ROUTE
The concept of Flups is well liked by shoppers. However, that's not the only thing Marina's passion for sustainability and knowledge of Amersfoort has led to. In fact, Marina also has her own sustainable shopping route! As soon as our interview is over, Marina immediately shows us a few highlights of this route. We go hunting for vintage furniture at Eigenaar 8 and for sustainable children's clothing at Bear and Sheep. The hidden second-hand clothes racks at SEM and Blur were also not to be missed. Once it's time for a pit stop, we race back to Kamp for a delicious scone at Something Else.
