Throughout the region, Frituur Van Gogh is known for its delicious fries and snacks. One delicacy stands out head and shoulders above the rest: their Amersfoort croquette! You can learn the magic formula behind this crispy snack during a croquette-making workshop. We signed up with our mouths watering!
Best in the country!
This ragout-filled delicacy from Frituur Van Gogh was voted the best croquette in the country by Krokettentest in 2020. Arn Zuyderduin, the big boss, explains at the beginning of the workshop that the product didn't just happen. In 2014, he worked on the recipe for nine months with a veritable croquette test team. Like a true Willy Wonka of snacks, he now opens the doors to share the result with us!
Starting the workshop
The workshop will be held at Het Kookcollege in the Isselt business park. As an introduction Arn explains step by step what we are going to do this afternoon and where all the ingredients come from. For example, all ingredients used for this croquette are of local origin!

The croquette now comes in five different flavors to taste, but we're going with the familiar beef croquette. Vegetarians not to worry: the course is also available with the vegetarian version. And that is certainly no less delicious!
Time for quality
Making a croquette may seem simple, but it certainly isn't! Arn and his colleagues explain that the croquette cannot be made in one day because of the rising of the ragout. Also, quite a bit of butter is needed to cook the flour. This works best with as little moisture in the butter as possible. The croquette is at its best when it is also left in the refrigerator overnight after breadcrumbing. So you'll learn all the facts about making croquettes.
The secret recipe
What makes this croquette so special? We share with you all the ingredients that make this savory snack so unique. This is because with the free-range beef is added broth, celeriac, carrot, mace, bay leaf and mustard. So you can imagine that making it takes quite a while, but most of all, it's very enjoyable. Everywhere has been thought about. We learned that the neck meat of the cow is used because it is the most flavorful.

In between, we are treated to a delicious fries from Frituur van Gogh's fire truck. In fact, Frituur Van Gogh also has food trucks that you will find at various festivals, such as Lepeltje Lepeltje, Into the Woods and Wildenburg in the coming months. The fire truck can be hired at smaller events such as weddings and company parties.
Taste it
After the well-deserved snack break, we continue rolling and then breadcrumbing the croquette. It's so much fun to watch our homemade croquettes (and bitterballs!) go into the fryer and then come out VERRUKKY. They were almost as delicious as at Frituur Van Gogh itself!
