Fancy a day out in Amersfoort, but would rather not spend too much money? I got you! In this blog I will take you along several locations in the city where you can do cheap or free activities.

A beer at The Three Rings 2.

At beer brewery De Drie Ringen you can sit by the water (with nice weather) and have a view of the Koppelpoort. For the real beer lovers among us: the staff will lovingly tell you about the history behind this brewery. It is super interesting! Can't get enough of beer tasting? Then check out this route where I tell you where to find the best beers in town.

2. Vintage shopping

Fancy a fun outing? Amersfoort is full of vintage stores. Check out our vintage route and don't miss a thing! Through our TikTok channel you get a good impression of some of the stores. My favorite is Vint, but also at Spektakel Wonen you will be amazed. This is the place to go if you like hysterical items.

3. Museum card? Check out these cool museums

There are such diverse museums as Kunsthal KAdE, Museum Flehite and the Mondrian House. Did you know, for example, that Piet Mondrian was born here? An overview of cool museums can be found here. This will be an inexpensive outing with a museum pass in your pocket.

Walk downtown 4.

Walking may seem obvious, but in the historic center of Amersfoort there is something special about it! There are some spots that will amaze you, such as these highlights that are ideal for shooting a nice snapshot. There are also cute little courtyard gardens. Do you like more peace and quiet? Then take a tour of the city park, or my favorite: Park Randenbroek. Check out more routes here, such as the Oogappelroute.

5. Cheap eateries

You won't spend a fortune on the award-winning croquette at Frituur van Gogh, but you will experience a real taste sensation. Furthermore, you can eat at Charlies Burger reasonably cheap and the burgers are delicious! Toko Tjin is also a household name in Amersfoort. Here you score delicious Asian takeaway.

6. Cruising through Amersfoort with the Waterline

For €7.50 you can take a tour of Amersfoort withthe Waterlijn. They have different tours and the volunteers (who really work here with heart and soul) know EVERYTHING about the city.

To the market on the Hof

You don't have to spend anything at the market, of course, and if you do, it's often a lot cheaper than at the store. Sometimes you can also sample for free. Top for the typical Dutch among us. Taste, taste and especially pay nothing. ;)

Picnicking 8.

Along the Eemhaven, in the city park or in Park Randenbroek you can have a great picnic. My favorite spots are in front of the Monnikendam or by the water near Park Randenbroek. Also along the Eem you can sit in the green. In the summer you can even take a dip here. For all the spots you can check this blog.

9. Lose yourself in literature

At Eemland Library you can read a book or magazine for free. In this beautiful building you can easily find a quiet place to lose yourself in a book for a while.

Sports enthusiasts beware!

For the sports enthusiasts among us: at the Leusderweg you can exercise for free. At the Juliana van Stolbergpark you will find various equipment in the public space. You can unleash your own creativity or just take a peek at the signs. They list a number of basic exercises that you can get used to.

11. Relax, take it ea-easy

At Salon the New City, you can book hair & beauty treatments fairly inexpensively. The salon is a teaching business where students gain practical experience under the guidance of professional instructors.

12. 't (OV) bike on

We have lots of great biking and walking routes in and around Amersfoort, such as the beer route, the route along various castles and country estates and my favorite: the Spakenburg tour. The latter takes you on a trip on the bike boat Eemlijn for a small price. Once you arrive in Spakenburg, don't forget to have a bite of herring. By the way, you can also skate the routes. Or follow our special skating route along the Eem.

Free supping through the canals (with your own sub) 13.

Do you still have a SUP board in the shed? Amersfoort has plenty of canals where you can SUP.

14. The best events can be found on UitInAmersfoort.nl

Check our Events Calendar for an up-to-date list of cool events.

15. Staying cheap

Haven't gotten enough of the city yet? Stay overnight at one of the cozyhotels. At Long John's Pub & Hotel you are right in the downtown area. At the back of the hotel you will find the Krankeledenplantsoen. This is really one of my favorite courtyard gardens and the staff there is super friendly.
