These days, supping is a huge trend in the Netherlands. This is quite understandable. After all, in our country we have beautiful canals, rivers and lakes. But have you ever heard of the combination of supping and yoga? Aloha Sup Club, founded by Bo and Mariette, organizes this super fun activity. A perfect outing to do with girlfriends during your visit to our city. That's how I took one of my best girlfriends, Lisette Driessen!

You can take a yoga class on the SUP board with Aloha Sup Club at different places. All year round! I wanted something different for once than sailing through the city, as we have done before with the canoe . Hence, we went on an adventure to Amersfoort Vathorst, where the new neighborhood De Laak is located. Here you can sail along the meadows or explore the modern canal district. Lisette and I chose the former because we were curious about the fantastic nature area.

Good to know: they can pick you up by car from the center of Amersfoort. So nice and easy if you come by train!

Ready to SUP!

suppen yoga water mensenAnd there we were. Ready for supping! Standing at the water, I was very afraid I would fall over and have to ride back home soaking wet in the car. Luckily that didn't happen! If you fall over, you must have done some really crazy things... So supping is also suitable for the clumsy people among us! ;-)

While you're getting ready, Bo tells you a little more about the sport. Suppen is a water sport activity in which you use a mega inflatable surfboard. It is a thicker and larger board than a normal surfboard, but even on this you are constantly looking for balance. You move by paddling.

Are you a real daredevil? Then, of course, you just stand up straight. The safe ways to use a SUP board are sitting or squatting on your knees.

Born out of love for the sport

alohasup amersfoort oprichtersWhat I personally love about Aloha Sup Club is that Mariette and Bo founded the company out of their love for the sport. Fun fact: they are mother and daughter! Supping started as a hobby, until a friend of theirs asked to borrow the SUP board once. From then on, they started renting it out to others as well. Mariette already teaches yoga and pilates regularly with her company Food to Fit. The creation of Aloha Sub Club allowed her to combine her passions (for yoga and supping).

As you're paddling through De Laak, the drive of these two buds is evident. They are very friendly, tell all kinds of things about the area you are paddling and no question is too much for them!

Clear water, animal spotting and plenty of relaxation!

natuur amersfoort suppenThe boating route through the meadows is highly recommended. The water is very clear. So you can see the fish swimming and beautiful underwater plants. There is also a lot to see along the water. Farm animals, water fleas, dragonflies and flowers in all colors of the rainbow. The wind blows through the reeds, creating a relaxing and soothing sound. If you want to get zen for a while, this is the place to be.

The perfect workout

yoga op het water meiden amersfoortAfter thirty minutes of sailing, you come out at a deck, where you can attach the sup. The yoga class you really do on the sup itself and is easy to follow for everyone. I myself have had an injury to my cruciate ligament and could just join in. Don't worry... you won't fall off the sup during the yoga class either!

Also good to know: fat burning is high. You have to keep your balance and use almost every muscle in your body. You do most of the work with your legs, but you also use your arms a lot and train your core.
