Going out in Amersfoort is quite a happening. Especially if you go out with Fien Vermeulen. The multimedia jack-of-all-trades knows the city like the back of her hand and knows exactly where to go for a good appetite, thirst and fun. We asked the presenter what her ideal evening out in Amersfoort looks like.

As soon as Fien talks about Amersfoort, the enthusiasm spills out. This is her city. As a newsreader at Qmusic and TV presenter at RTL and SBS, her schedule is pretty full, but fortunately she regularly finds opportunities to go out with friends in the Keistad. Whether everyone can keep up with the former Expedition Robinson contestant is another story....

Coming in

Fien has energy for ten when she goes out. "When I really go out, I start drinking in the afternoon. For example, in Krankeledenplantsoen, the beer garden behind Long John's Pub, Boothill Saloon and Charlie's Burger 33. Long John's Pub feels like a second living room to me. They serve gluten-free beer there and with my gluten allergy, I am very happy about that. At Charlie's I can then get a burger on a gluten-free bun."

Fien spends the afternoon at Stadscafé on the Lieve Vrouwekerkhof. "Their homemade lemonades I recommend. If I want to income for the evening I put a little vodka in there, haha!

Secret cocktail bar

Fien has a taste for it. "Pallas on the Krommestraat was a big surprise for me. They serve incredibly delicious cocktails there. Especially ask owner Kostas for tips. I recently drank the Zombie cocktail... Holy shit! It was one of the tastiest I've ever had."

In the same breath, she continues: "Speaking of cocktails, there's a secret cocktail bar at WestSingel restaurant. Super fun atmosphere with a 1920s vibe!"

Time to dance

"Miles is always good. Especially on Friday nights, because that's when they have live music. By the way, for live music I also go to De Noot in Hoogland. A bit out of the way, but very cozy. On very crazy nights I go to café Thuis after Miles for karaoke. Then to Jackson's to end the evening properly. There's a fat dance floor with all the lights, like you're in the eighties."

Top tip

Fien can talk endlessly about Amersfoort, but ends her story with a golden tip: "Make a tour of it! What makes Amersfoort the nicest city in the Netherlands is the people. There is a connection here that I don't know anywhere else. On the map the center may seem small, but if you make a tour of it you really have a top day. Even better: one day is not enough, make it a weekend!"
